Enter estimates for beneficiaries (1041 MA)

To enter estimates made on behalf of the beneficiary, use the Estimates made on behalf of beneficiary field in the Beneficiaries tab. The amount you enter goes to the beneficiary’s Schedule K-1, line 24. Onvio Tax cannot automatically calculate estimates based on the distributions received by nonresident beneficiaries.

Form 2 and Form 2G

To calculate estimates for the beneficiaries:

  1. Create a new 1041 return. Enter the beneficiary information for the trust name and EIN.
  2. Go to the MAEst screen and enter a code in the Next year declaration field, along with any applicable input below that code.

If you entered federal estimates on the StPmt or K1T-2 screen, Onvio Tax allocates those to the beneficiaries as follows:

  • Grantor trust: Allocates to nonresident beneficiaries only, based on either the estimated taxes percent, the income percent, or equally. Enter the estimated taxes percent and the income percent in the Beneficiaries tab.
  • Pooled Income Fund, CRUT or CRAT: Allocates to all beneficiaries, based on either the estimated taxes percent, the income percent, or equally. Enter the estimated taxes percent and the income percent in the Beneficiaries tab.
  • Form 2: Does not allocate.

There is no input to change estimate amounts for the beneficiaries on the MA return only. To change the estimate amounts for beneficiaries, you need to change the amounts you entered on the federal StPmt or K1T-2 screens, which will affect the deduction on the federal return.

Onvio Tax does not allocate withholding entered at the federal level because there is no withholding requirement.
